Links: Computing and Place

Studio study. Some examination of computing-enhanced spaces, done as precedent studies for this project.

Ubiquitous Computing, Mark Weiser's (late director of Xerox PARC) vision of place transformed by computing. I find the QuickTime videos are especially impressive.

Enabling technologies for ubiquitous computing: Bluetooth decentralized local telephony - 802.15 decentralized local network.

Other wireless networking technologies. 802.11 overview - standards group; a technology for interconnecting computers over moderate ranges. Currently in use (on the University of Oregon campus, among other places.) Not a ubiquitous computing technology--too large & power-hungry. 802.16; wireless data, voice, and video.
